Monarca Essentials is a handcrafted soap and candle business.
Candles bring us all together, though the scents and meaning are personal.
In 2013 I was inspired to learn how to make them myself. I started reading about the process, that’s when I found out about soy wax and that most commercial candles are made of paraffin. Let’s start with where paraffin wax comes from and why it is most commonly used (it’s cheap).
Paraffin wax is obtained from petroleum (Yes, what is used in vehicles) by dewaxing light lubricating oil stock. This type of wax releases toxic fumes when burnt, which has been linked to asthma and lung cancer. Let’s look at the alternative, soy wax.
Soy wax is a natural product made of soybeans that is non-toxic (meaning not poisonous to breath when burnt). Knowing what my choices were, it was easy to make the permanent change to soy wax. Learning all this information I ordered a starter kit and started cleaning and upcycling my old candle jars.
My first batch was made of different sizes, colors, and scents, truly unique and homemade. This was the most enjoyable hobby I’ve ever done! Almost immediately I started searching (with my husband’s help) where to find bigger quantities of soy wax and candles supplies.
By the end of the year, when the holidays came around,
all my gifts to friends and family were homemade candles.
Needless to say they were a hit and I started getting requests to make more to sell. For a little while we did Farmer’s Markets and even though it was challenging educating people (natural products were not as popular back then) we still enjoyed and people loved the product. We eventually transitioned to an in-home business and worked with preorders (sometimes 30 at a time!). With time being limited after having two kids, the focus turned to time efficiency and I started teaching classes on how to make your own soy candles, this way I could share my passion with others.
Monarca Essencials was born to contribute, educate and offer healthy alternatives.

In the beginning of 2019

After many requests from friends and clients, soaps were born.
Looking into ingredient options, goat milk was the top choice for skin benefits.
Goat milk base soap is a gentle cleanser with fatty natural acids. This helps keep skin moist and at the same time its high lactic acid content exfoliates the skin leaving you with healthier smoother skin. If you have dry skin, eczema, psoriasis or simply sensitive skin this is the soap base to use. Adding natural ingredients like oats, honey, and lavender seemed like the right thing to do for our bodies health.
Soaps immediately became everybody’s new favorite! With soaps it felt like I could be more creative with what kind of recipes I could create. We also use other bases like oatmeal, olive oil, shea, honey and aloe, so the benefits are limitless. During the journey of creating natural (as possible) products and searching for a healthy, sustainable lifestyle, I started cultivating my own herbs (story for another time) for use in my soaps.
I came across DoTerra’s essential Oils and started incorporating them into some of my soaps for an even more natural product. Creativity is my addiction! Mixing herbs, essential oils and sometimes crystals is my favorite thing to do. Being a Reiki Master in several types, I like to add to the spiritual experience by adding crystals and good vibes. I hope to transmit the passion and love I put into making the products to you. And stay tuned to see what other creations are coming!
